The capture of the Arab city of Nazareth was officially announced here late tonight in an Israeli communique.
The city, which had been converted into a major base by Fawzi el Kaukuji and his “Liberation Army,” was entered by a small detachment of Jewish troops immediately after the outflanked guerrilla units withdrew by the last remaining exit. The bulk of the Jewish army remained outside the city because of its religious significance to the Christian world.
Tel Aviv was heavily bombed tonight by Egyptian Dakotas and Spitfires. No report is available of the casualties or damage.
