Iraqi Jew Accused of Aiding Israeli War Effort Hanged Despite Plea of U.S. Minister

The American Jewish Committee today received Information that Shafiq Ades, an Iraqi Jew charged with having aided the Israeli war effort “by purchasing surplus British military materials and shipping them to Israel, vas hanged this morning despite the intervention of the American Minister to Iraq.

Shafiq, who represented the Ford Motor Co0 in Iraq, for 18 years, was tried by a military court and sentenced to death and payment of a fine equivalent to about $20,000,000. The death sentence was subject to review “by King Feisal, who approved the sentence Just prior to Ades1 execution.
