“Enemy activity last night centered mainly around the Deir Abu Tor sector where our forces foiled an attempt by Arab troops to occupy new positions,” an Israeli Army communique said today. Sporadic firing from the Arab lines, in various parts of the city, continued during the night and the morning. Jewish suburbs on the southern outskirts of Jerusalem were intermittently shelled by the Arabs yesterday and this morning, with no casualties reported, the communique said.

Rene Neuville, French Consul-General here, today accepted the chairmanship of the Consular Truce Commission, succeeding U.S. Consul-General John J. MacDonald, who is now in the United States.
