Major problems of concern to American Jews will be acted upon at a two-day meeting of the executive committee of the American Jewish Committee, it was announced here today by Jacob Blaustein, chairman of the executive committee who will preside at the session. The conference will take place in Chicago and will open on Oct. 16. Leaders of the American Jewish community from all sections of the country and representatives of 34 local chapters will attend the gathering.
Judge Joseph M. Proskauer, president of the A.J.C., will discuss the impact of the state of Israel on the American Jewish community. Irving M. Engel, chairman of the administrative committee and immigration committee, who recently testified in Washington before the Senate Judiciary Committee on long-range revision of American immigration policy, will address the meeting on the Displaced Persons Act and basic U.S. immigration laws, which the Congress is studying with a view to revision. Prof. Herman A. Gray of New York University, who has just returned from a two-month mission to Europe, will report on the position of the Jews in the countries he visited.
