J. de Klerk, secretary of the Transvaal Nationalist Party, today repudiated a statement by J. Nossell, one of a group of pro-Nationalist Jews, that the Nationalist Party would lift its ban against the admission of Jews to membership in the party, at its forthcoming annual convention.
De Klerk insisted that no agenda for the convention had been drawn, nor would it be organized until after Oct. 23, the deadline for submission of items for the agenda. He also denied knowledge of any statements by party leaders, as reported by Nossell, to the effect that the ban would be lifted.
An editorial in the Zionist Record, organ of the Zionist Federation, criticized Nossell’s plan to form a Jewish group in support of the Nationalists. The Rand Daily Mail ridicules Nossell and the efforts of Britons and Jews who, the newspaper says, are now beginning to tout the Nationalists as “not so bad after all.”
