The seven-nation Security Council sub-committee on the Negev which was scheduled to meet here today has cancelled its session and adjourned indefinitely. The group, which was appointed in connection with the Council order to withdraw from the Negev, has the power to recommend sanctions for failure to obey the order.

It was learned in highly authoritative quarters today that Canada is ready to supply the sixth affirmative vote on Israel’s application for U.N. membership, while France’s position remains in doubt. Meanwhile, Israeli Foreign Minister Moshe Shertok will remain here until next Sunday to exert the strongest diplomatic pressure on the Security Council on the question of the application. The Council is now slated to meet Wednesday morning on the application.
