Dr. Ralph J. Bunche, U.N. acting mediator for Palestine, said on his arrival in Washington to address an Overseas Writers luncheon here today, that he is “completely confident” that peace will come to Palestine.

Dr. Bunche said he did not believe the fighting which began in the Negev last week will become “general.” Reports indicate, he added, that the fighting has so far been confined to a small area. He said he could not blame either the Jews or the Arabs for resumption of the Negev fighting. He emphasized that his report to the U.N. Security Council Monday simply reported the findings of the U.N. observor with the Egyptian forces.

Dr. Bunche said he thought it was “unfortunate” that the Israeli Government has “temporarily” refused to supply U.N. liaison officers with its forces and that this prevented them from functioning effectively.
