A resolution calling upon the United Jewish Appeal to appropriate $2,000,000 for religious institutions in Israel was adopted here at the annual convention of the Union of Orthodox Rabbis of the United States and Canada. At the same time, delegates to the convention unanimously approved a resolution thanking the Joint distribution Committee for the program it conducts in behalf of the religious and cultural centers of Israel.

The delegates also sent a message of greetings to the state of Israel and voiced their solidarity with the Religious Bloc formed during the recent Israeli national elections. They expressed the hope that the Israeli Constitution would not incorporate any laws which would be contrary to the spirit of the Torah.” Discussion on Yeshivoth in the U.S. and on the question of Kashruth in this country are also conducted. Rabbis Israel Rosenberg, Eliezer Silver and Aryeh L. Levinthal are re-elected to the organization’s Praesidium.
