Heruth Will Not Participate in Israeli Coalition Govt., Bergson Declares in Washington

Heruth, the Irgun-sponsored party in Israel, will not Join a coalition government headed by Premier David Ben Gurion and the Mapai, Peter ?and Samuel Merlin, former co-chairmen of the Hebrew Committee for National ##ration, declared here last night at a press conference. Both men have been elect-## representatives of Heruth in the Constituent Assembly.Bergson and Merlin announced that the liquidation of the BCNL here will take place when the Committee formally offers its headquarters in Washington to the Israeli ? for use as the Israeli Embassy. The building is a three-floor, stone ? on Massachusetts Avenue, several blocks from the present location of the Israeli mission. The two Heruth leaders thanked President Truman and the American people for de jure recognition of the Jewish state, but scored Britain’s de facto recognition as a “sinister maneuver.”
