JERUSALEM (Feb. 10)
An urgent request to the Israeli Government to release immediately a sufficient number of Hebrew University students to enable the University to reopen was voiced, here today at a press conference by officials of the University.
The officials reported that a recently-completed survey disclosed that ten percent of all Israeli soldiers wish either to resume or begin their studies at the Mt. Scopus institution. One-third of these soldiers, the survey disclosed, previously studied at the University.
Dr. Simcha Assaf, University rector, outlined the dangers arising from the disruption of spiritual, cultural and scientific activities at the Hebrew University. The officials emphasized that they strongly resent the government’s non-implementation of Premier David Ben Gurion’s specific promise to release students for work at the University.
