Jewish Fund-raising in 1948 Highest in History, Cjfwf Says; $180,000,000 Raised

American Jewish fund-raising in 1948 reached the ?ghest peak in its history with 180 federations and welfare funds reporting a total $180,478,426 raised for overseas, national, regional and local needs, it was re-##aled here In a report issued today by the Council of Jewish Federations and Welfre Funds.

A comprehensive survey of the 180 communities showed a 29 percent increase by the same agencies over 1947, the report stated. In total dollars, the increase was 0,558,322 more than the $139,920,104 raised in 1947. The statistics do not include immunity Chest income.

The CJFWF analysis divided the drives on the basis of spring and fall campaigns. Final figures from 139 spring campaign communities showed a total of $159, ## 5,608 raised in 1948, This represented an increase of 33 percent over the $119,989,-?5 raised in the spring of 1947. Pointing out that totals for fall campaigns are sti11 incomplete in many cases, the report declared that communities are “extending their efforts to achieve maximum results.” The 41 reporting communities have thus far $20,675,818, as compared with $19,930,839 in the fall of 1947.

Stanley C. Myers, CJFWF president, declared that the figures illustrate that communities are “making the most concentrated effort in history” to meet their overseas and home responsibilities. “An even greater effort may be expected in 1949,” he said, “as communities organize their campaigns and work intensively toward exceeding ##ll previous totals,” he concluded.
