A Spokesman for the Israeli Government categorically denied reports emanating today from Amman that armed clashes have taken place between Israeli and Transjordan forces near Akaba. He emphasized that there are no Israeli forces inside Transjordan territory and that the government has no knowledge of any clash inside Israeli territory.

Israeli forces are believed to be stationed in the Eylat district, with a frontage of about ten miles on the Gulf of Akaba. An Israeli Foreign Ministry spokes-man this morning, however, declined to state where Israeli units are located. He said he did not believe reports received in Tel Aviv that British forces in Akaba had breached the Israeli frontier and were on Israeli territory in the Negev.
