The United Nations Secretariat today made public an appeal by the World Jewish Congress to the U.N. Economic and Social Council for action against recent anti-Jewish moves on the part of the Syrian Government.

In its petition, the Congress called the attention of the U.N. Council to a report from Damascus that the Syrian Government has ordered all banks in the country to block the financial accounts of Jews. The banks have also been ordered to send the names of the depositors and the amount each has on deposit to the government.

The W.J.C. also pointed out that the Syrian Government has ordered the cancellation of all pending real estate transactions in which Jews are parties. The order directs the confiscation of all Jewish properties and other holdings for the benefit of Palestine Arab refugees.
