Plans for the economic development of Transjordan to enable it to absorb the largest number of Palestine Arab refugees possible were discussed here by Sir Alex Kirkbride, British Minister to Amman and the Foreign Office it was learned today. Included in the plans are proposals for irrigation and reclamation of Transjordan’s arid regions and the development of a road system.
(Last Tuesday, during the debate in the House of Lords on the Palestine-Arab situation, Lord Handerson, speaking for the Government, said it was understood that plans were afoot in the Arab states “which might be expedited and expanded to contribute to absorption of large numbers of refugees.” He added that the government is ready to cooperate as far as possible to aid the Arabs.)
