Preparations for celebration of Israel’s first Independence Day, marking the first anniversary of the establishment of the new state, were completed today by a special committee set up by the government. Independence day falls this year on May 4.
According to plans announced here, the celebration will begin with a speech by Premier David Ben Gurion which will be broadcast on all Israeli stations. Arrangements have been made for holding of public folk dances in every section of Israel, while all houses and buildings will be beflagged and bedecked for the occasion. Special Independence Day food rations will be made available.
A copy of the Israeli Declaration of Independence will be presented to every class by the government. Outstanding students will be presented to the Minister of Education, Zalman Shazar, who will address them on the importance of the celebration. Huge military parades will be hold in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem while smaller military spectacles have been scheduled for every town and hamlet from Dan to Eylat. Special gifts will also be distributed to wounded Israeli veterans. Ben Gurion and Brig. Gen. Yaacov Dori, Chief of Staff, will take the salute in Tel Aviv.
