The Israeli official revealed that the Hungarian Government no longer permits the emigration of any Jews to the Jewish state except in cases of parents who have children in Israel or children whose parents now reside in Israel. During the year since Israel was proclaimed, the new state received 218,000 immigrants, bringing its total population to 890,000–a 35 percent increase in 12 months, Shay stated. Four Jewish centers, he said, were cleared of Jews during the year. These were the Cyprus detention camps, Bulgaria, Yugoslavia and Aden.
