The Israeli Government’s decision to reject a United States plea that Israel accept a large number of Arab refugees was conveyed last night to Mark Ethridge, American representative on the U.N. Conciliation Commission, by Dr. Walter Eytan, head of the Israeli delegation.

Dr. Eytan took the decision to Mr. Ethridge in a private meeting after returning from his five-day trip to Tel Aviv, where he had gone for consultations. Mr. Ethridge is leaving tomorrow, and Raymond Hare, deputy director of the State Department’s Office of Near Eastern and African Affairs, will take over.
