BUENOS AIRES (Jun. 17)
More than 7,200 Jewish children in Buenos Aires and its suburbs attend some kind of Jewish school, it was revealed here at a convention of Jewish teachers. The annual budget for Jewish education in this area–which includes 49 schools–is approximately $675,000. Some 230 persons are engaged in teaching in Jewish schools here.
Jewish educators in this country have expressed disappointment at the low rate of attendance, since only 17 percent of the eligible children attend Jewish schools. The teachers point out, however, that the proportion of children who drop out after brier attendance at a Jewish school is even higher. A Hebrew and Yiddish teachers seminary here, which occupies an important place in educational circles in Buenos Aires, this month graduated 59 instructors, many of whom proceeded to Israel to complete their studies.
