Dr. Pablo Manguel, newly-named Argentine Minister to Israel, arrived here yesterday on route to ‘Tel Aviv. He said in a statement that he plans to remain in the U.S. three weeks in order to “get a comprehensive picture of the feelings of Jews and their thoughts towards Israel.” Dr. Manguel, who is a leader in the pro-Peron group, Organizacion Israelita Argentina, said he also plans to visit England, France and Italy prior to proceeding to Israel.
Mannel Scheinsohn, president of the O.I.A., also arrived here yesterday and expects to remain in this country several weeks prior to proceeding to Prague. Mr. Scheinsohn is going to Czechoslovakia on an economic mission for the Argentine Government. Both Jewish leaders will be tendered a reception by the Argentine Consulate here next week.
Minister Manguel declared in a statement to the press that there is a deep sentiment of friendship in Argentina towards the new state, “not only by those of Jewish extraction but also by all Argentinians who admire this country for the great lesson it has given to the world in the heroic fight for statehood.”
Dr. Manguel added, in his statement: “I will try my best, to the utmost of my ability and knowledge, to perform my functions as a Minister in Israel in manner that will add more glory to the name of Argentina and make her feel proud of the accomplishment of my mission to Israel.”
