Israel still faces many dangers and hardships, Premier David Ben Gurion last night warned, but stressed that the Jewish state still hopes to reach a peaceful settlement with its Arab neighbors despite the fact that many nations have not yet accepted the reality of Israel’s existence.
The Premier, who spoke to the 18th world Mizrachi conference, told the Orthodox Zionists that Israel and the Zionist movement are basically democratic. He welcomed interparty disputes because "free people can only live when they have freedom of speech and freedom to exchange views." However, he insisted that all parties must keep in sight the basic idea which unites them.
