The left-wing Mapam — the United Workers Party of Israel — which has the second largest representation in the Knesset has informed the government that it wishes to participate in the coalition Cabinet, it was reported here today.

A Ministerial committee made up of Labor Minister Golda Myerson, Finance Minister Eliezer Kaplan and Immigration Minister Moshe Shapira will meet to consider the Mapam’s request. The Mapam’s desire to participate in the government was transmitted last week following protracted negotiations between Mapai and Mapam.

According to one report, present members of the Cabinet will demand a proportional increase in representation in the event Mapam members are admitted to the coalition.
