TEL AVIV (Aug. 31)
A group of American Jews is planning to erect a 10,000-seat amphitheatre in Jerusalem in time for the presentation of modern musical festivals in Israel in 1951, it was revealed here today by Shlomo Levertov, public relations chief of the government tourist department.
Mr. Levertov also disclosed that plans are now under way to promote tours in Israel among Jews living abroad. Jews will be asked to celebrate weddings and Bar Mitzvahs in the Jewish state in conjunction with the tourism program.
The first music and art festival in Israel will be held in Jerusalem and in Tel Aviv in June and July of next year, Mr. Levertov said. He also announced that traditional carnival celebrations of Purim in Tel Aviv — which have been suspended for the past 15 years — will take place next year.
