Abel Shaban, South African Jewish leader who is now visiting the United States, was honored yesterday at a luncheon tendered him by the American ORT. Earlier, he was tendered a luncheon by the American Jewish Committee.

Mr. Shaban, who takes an active interest in Jewish communal activities in South Africa, was also given a reception by the HIAS at which speakers lauded his devotion to Jewish causes. On his first visit to this country, the South African Jewish leader is acquainting himself with various aspects of Jewish life in the United States and with the activities of Jewish organizations here.
