The United Jewish Appeal “crisis mission”–whose members left last night by air for a ten-day visit to Israel–were told earlier by former Governor Herbert H. Lehman at his home here that “Israel deserves the fullest moral and material support from America, because it represents an important ally in our struggle to reinforce the structure of the democratic world.”
Mr. Lehman urged the 12 members comprising the special deputation to assure the people and leaders of Israel that the American people would continue to extend aid to the Jewish state during the coming year. (A dispatch from Tel Aviv said the delegation was scheduled to arrive at Lydda airport tomorrow.)
Jacob S. Potofsky, president of the Amalgamated Clothing Workers of America, last night told a Waldorf-Astoria dinner honoring labor leaders Sander Genis and Louis Simon, that the Histadrut is the “most powerful, most efficient and most accomplished trade union in the world. It has not only raised the wage and working conditions of workmen in Israel, Jew and Arab alike, but it is part of the life-blood of that new nation,” he added.
