A $500,000 allocation for sheltering and feeding newly-arrived Jewish immigrants in the U.S. during the next six months was made today by HIAS. Samuel A. Telsey, HIAS president, pointed out that “temporary sheltering of immigrants at ports of debarkation has increased sharply because distribution of displaced persons to their permanent abodes has not been able to keep up with the constant ship arrivals.”
