J.D.C. Submits Plan to Polish Government for Ending Its Activities in Country

A plan for the liquidation of the Joint Distribution Committee in Poland has been submitted by J.D.C. director William Bein to the Ministry of Public Administration, following the government order that the organization should wind up its activities, it was reported here today.

The plan calls for the J.D.C. to discontinue receiving applications for assistance–either from individuals or organizations–on December 16 of this year, and to cease all activities on December 31. The J.D.C. is presently making an inventory of all its property and supplies, with the view to dividing it up among the Jewish Central Committee, the Union of Religious Congregations and the Zionist Federation.

It has been suggested that the largest part of the J.D.C. ‘s property should be handed over to the religious communal body for two reasons: that the Central Committee will probably be taken over by the government, while the Union will not; and, that the Union is entitled to a larger share because it is outfitting and supplying with food religions emigrants who depart for Israel.
