A plan to establish a plant in Israel to assemble Ford trucks for use here was disclosed today by Dr. Shaul Lipschitz, chairman of the board of Palestine Automobile Corporation, Ltd. The plant would be in the seaport city of Haifa. It would assemble trucks which are urgently needed to help overcome Israel’s transport shortage and to hasten the industrial and agricultural development of the new state.
Dr. Lipschitz, whose Palestine Automobile Corporation is owned entirely locally, said the plan for the project, for which he will seek approval of government authorities, had been developed during the course of negotiations he has carried on with Ford Motor Company officials and others in Detroit and New York during the past three months.
