Dr. H.B. Weidemann, a former bishop and one of the leaders of the Evangelical Church in Germany, has been convicted by a Bremen densification court of having been a major Nazi. Among the various exhibits by the prosecution were a number of Dr. Weidemann’s writings, come of which were considered anti-Semitic. The former bishop was tried in absentia. He is presently in the Soviet zone where he is mayor of a town and is a representative of the Socialist Unity Party.
Two of the defendants in the trial of a number of Nazis who were convicted of desecrating the only synagogue in the Bavarian town of Marktredwitz several months ago have been released in 1,500 marks bail pending a review of their case. Bail–which amounts to about $350 each–was granted by an American district court at Bayreuth.
