Mohammed Nimr Hawari, former commander of the Arab paramilitary formation Nejade, arrived yesterday at Haifa, having received prior assurance of sanctuary in Israel.
The former commander has been strongly opposed to the exiled Mufti of Jerusalem, Haj Amin el Husseini, and his life has been threatened in neighboring Arab countries. The Israel authorities granted his request to be allowed to return.
Loans totaling $140,000 have been advanced to 1,200 Arab farmers for buying seed or hiring tractors, it was announced today by the Israel Ministry of Agriculture. It was also announced that the Arab village of Abu Gosh, in the Jerusalem corridor, has been granted the status of a Local Council by a regulation of the Ministry of Interior.
