The tenth anniversary of the establishment here of a settlement for Jewish refugees fleeing Nazi persecution in Germany was marked during the week-end at ceremonies attended by high United States and Dominican officials. The refugee settlement was set up under the suspices of the Dominican Republic Settlement Association (DORSA), a branch of the Joint Distribution Committee.
Occupying a 26,000-acre site on the northern coast of the Republic, the settlement during the past decade served as a transient haven for hundreds of displaced persons throughout the war years. At present there are 350 persons residing in the settlement. Exhibitions of prize cattle, industrial and agricultural products, paintings and photographs were shown during the week-end.
