The Rumanian Supreme Court today upheld a sentence of 20 years hard labor and loss of civil rights imposed on Ion Bajenaru, a war criminal and a leading member of the anti-Semitic Iron Legion movement in the town of Roman, in Moldavia.
Bajonaru had appealed to the court, denying charges that he maltreated Jews and other anti-fascists in Roman. Several of the defendant’s victims died as a result of beatings they received from Bajanaru, the court was told.
