Download PDF for this date

A vital slum-clerance project involving the evacuation of 1,500 Jews from the overcrowded Mellah (ghetto) here was decided upon today at a joint conference of top government officials and Jewish community leaders. Among the Jewish leaders participating in the parley were Jules Braunschwig, vice-president of the Alliance Israelite Universells, and Jules Sanouf, president of the ORT in Morocco.

The slum-clearance project, involving an expenditure of 300,000,000 francs, will be launched immediately. A long-range project for the ihabitants of the Mellah–to cost upwards of 1,000,000,000 francs and to be financed by banks and private groups, under a guarantee of the government–was also discussed.
