Israel-transjordan Pact May Be Signed Next Month, Britain Believes

The British-controlled Near East Arab radio today said in a broadcast that it is hoped that the peace agreement between Israel and Transjordan will be signed before the end of next month.

Simultaneously, Radio Beirut reported that the first signs of peace between the Arabs and Jews in Jerusalem were evident yesterday with the removal by Transjordan of the ban forbidding civilians to live in the Musrara Arab quarter of Jerusalem.

Radio Beirut also said today that Azzam Pasha, secretary-general of the Arab League, has asserted that the Arabs want peace and not war with Israel and consider the armistice agreements concluded with the Jewish state the first step toward a settlement of differences in the Middle East.
