The Israel Government decided to convert Jerusalem into its capital “not only on a de jure basis but also de facto,” Premier David Ben Gurion declared in the Knesset today. He added that the government’s decision to move its offices and the Knesset to Jerusalem was done for practical reasons.
Replying to Herut criticism of the military censorship system, the Premier said that the system was being kept to prevent the disclosure of military matters which might endanger the security of the state. He said that any censor who was found to be using his position to “tamper with political opinions” was liable to dismissal.
The finance committee of the Israel Parliament today approved an interim budget for three months totalling more than $28,000,000. An advance sum of $58,000,000 for development schemes for the same period was also approved.
The budget was criticized by a Herut deputy, who suggested that $280 be deducted from the budget as an expression of non-confidence in the government and in the Parliament. Later, however, the deputy voted in favor of the full budget.
