Secretary of State Dean Acheson said he had a profitable discussion” last week with 30 pro-Israel Congressmen. The lawmakers, members of both parties, had come to the State Department with the announced purpose of obtaining American pressure against the shipment of British arms to Arab countries.
The Secretary of State said he “had a very good meeting with the Congressmen.” he added that he and the lawmakers went over American policy toward the Middle East and discussed the facts of the situation. Mr. Acheson did not announce any change in the American attitude toward the rearmament program in the Middle East.
