Sir Oswald Mosley today announced that he will lead members of his Union Movement on a march through the East End of London on May 7, several days after expiration of the current temporary ban on all political processions in the municipal area.

The defense committee of the Board of Deputies of British Jews has made new representations to the Home Office against possible renewal of the ban. The group pointed out that current legislation gives the authorities the legal power to ban any procession which they feel may be detrimental to public order, therefore there is no need to reinstitute a ban on all marches. By relying on the general legislation pertaining to public order, the committee said, the government can ban “clearly provocative” marches without impairing political freedoms.
