New York Mayor Proclaims Sunday As Israel Independence Day in City

Mayor William O’Dwyer today issued a proclamation declaring Sunday, April 23, as Israel Independence Day. He handed the proclamation to a delegation this afternoon which included Israel Consul General Arthur Lo##, Benje## Browdis, president of the Zionist Organization of America, and Louis Limsky, chairman of the American Zionist Council.

Israel’s Independence Day will be celebrated here at the Astor Hotel Sunday swaning. More than 2,500 people are expected to attend the celebration which will feat## speeckes by Eliahu Elath, Israel’s Ambassador to the United States, and U.S. Secretary of the Interfor Oscar L. Chapman. The affair was arranged by the American Zionist Council and will be presided over by Mr. Lipsky.

The Israel Consulate announced that it will hold a reception for Israel citizens here on Sunday. A coast-to-coast broadcast entitled “Israel, Year II,” will be presented Sunday by the Columbia Broadcasting System.
