An additional $14,000,000 will be required by the Jewish Agency to carry out its immigration and colonization plans for the fiscal year in Israel, it was reported today by Levy Eshkol, treasurer of the Agency.
Addressing the finance committee of the Zionist Actions Committee–supreme body between sessions of the World Zionist Congress–Mr. Eshkol said that more than $80,000,000 will be spent this year for colonization in Israel instead of the $47,000,000 allocated in the budget. He also reported that the Israel Government turned over to the Jewish Agency 15,000 housing units in new agrioultural settlements.
Premier David Den Gurion today conferred with Dr. Nahum Goldmann, chairman of the American section of the Jewish Agency, on the question of relations between the Israel Government and the Agency. A joint meeting of members of the Israel Cabinet and the Jewish Agency executive will take place within a few days to discuss acute immigration problems, including the transfer of Jews from Iraq to Israel.
