Jew and Arab Found Guilty of Espionage in Israel Get Three-and-a-half-year Jail Terms

Itzhak Shamai, a Jew, and Mohamed Elkader Matari, an Arab, who were found guilty of espionage following a prolonged trial here, were sentenced to three-and-a-half years imprisonment each today for “espionage activities likely to benefit an eventual enemy.” They confessed that they had divulged the presence of vessels laden with Jewish immigrants in Haifa harbor.
