Member of Ultra-Orthodox Sect in Israel is Sentenced for Refusing to Serve in Army

Leib Weissfish, a member of the ultra-Orthodox sect "Neturei Karta" (Guardians of the City), was sentenced to six months imprisenment today for refusing to enter Israel’s armed forces on "meral and religious grounds."

The presiding magistrate pointed out to the sectarian that the Jewish religion does not ban war and that the Bible justifies a war of liberation.
