Despito the announcement of the North Rhine-Westpha?ian state government that it had withdrawn schooltexts which contained anti-Semitic statements the books have not, in fact, been withdrawn from schools and libraries and still may be bought freely. When newspapermen today questioned education department officials on the situation they refused to comment.

From Stuttgart it was reported that Dr. Bonno Ostertag, chairman of the local Jewish community, has called on the Wuerttemberg-Badon government to take action against Municipal Judge Hans Kettnacker, for expressing anti-Semitic statements. During a trial at which testimony was introduced that the defendant had been a gaudeiter during the Nazi regime, the judge declared: “It makes no difference to me whether somebody was a gauleiter or unsuccessfully tried three times to gas a rabbi.”
