The national Aleph Zadek Aleph convention in closing sessions here this week-end endorsed President Truman’s and the United Nations efforts in Korea. At the same time, the B’nai B’rith Youth organization pledged itself to full support of the war effort “as will best promote the preservation of democratic traditions and the sacred hopes of peoples all over the world for freedom and security from fear.” Nineteen-year-old Ronnic Weiss, a pre-law student at Rice Institute in Houston, Texas, became the national president.
The 300 delegates branded the invasion of South Korea as a threat to the United Nations and resolved “that the decision of the Security Council of the United Nations towards immediate cessation of hostilities be heartily endorsed, and that President Truman’s action in supporting the United Nations toward peace be fully approved and supported.” Two other resolutions were directed towards the 800 A.Z.A. chapters. They recommended that the chapters study thoroughly the universal military training programs being advanced and that they come to some conclusion on these and on extending the franchise to 18-year-olds, for action by the national organization at some future time.
