The 150-year-old Pest Jewish Community held its last general meeting today, liquidating itself and making place for the newly-founded Budapest Israelite Community, established with the approval of the government and including all former autonomous Jewish communities.

The historic significance of the event was emphasized by speakers at the meeting who said that the reorganization will bring about the unity of Hungarian Jewry. The new community will continue to foster free religious life among the Jews of Hungary, in conformity with the principles of the state, Lajos Stoekler, the president, told the gathering.
