Three literary awards for works of poetry of literary merit and Jewish interest will be made by the Jewish Book Council of America, sponsored by the National Jewish Welfare Board, it was announced today by Dr. Mortimer J. Cohen, council president. An award of $100 will be made for a book of poetry in English, on of $100 for a volume of poems in Hebrew and a similar award for a book of poetry in Yiddish.
Funds for the poetry prizes, called the Harry Kovner Memroial Awards, will be provided by the family of the late Harry Kovner. The three awards will be given to authors of books published during the calendar year 1950. To be considered, the volumes must have been published in the United States.
