A $5,000 “Frieder Literary Award” for the best novel on a Jewish theme has been announced by Dr. Maurice N. Eisendrath, president of the Union of American Hebrew Congregations, which is sponsoring the competition. The winning manuscript will be published by Rinehart and Company.
The contest will be judged by Fannie Hurst, noted novelist and short story writer; Norman Mailer, author of the best-selling “Naked and the Dead”## and John A. Selby, eminent critic and editor-in-chief of Rinehart and Company. The contest carries a $5,000 cash award, of which $3,000 will constitute an outright prize and $2,000 will be an advance against future royalties. The contest opens November 15, 1950, and extends through November 15, 1951.
