Safeguards against the entry of “Germans who have given no evidence of purging themselves of Nazi doctrine and totalitarian philosophy” were asked in a resolution unanimously adopted by the council meeting of the Canadian Legion’s Quebec Provincial command. The resolution also urged intensive screening of all Germans seeking admission to Canada, including “non-German elements who have served in the German Army or any other German military formation.”
It directs the government’s attention “to the very serious danger to the country in any policy that allows entry of German immigrants without thorough and efficient weeding out of politcal undesirables.” Alleging denazification in Germany is a failure, the Legion’s resolution predicts that the Canadian Government’s “intended admission of substantial numbers of German immigrants at this time will result in widespread propaganda directed against Canadian and democratic ideals.”
