The existence of a preliminary road network in the Negev which is “essential to the development of the Negev’s mineral resources,” was revealed here today in a report of the last two years of developmental activity in Israel’s southern desert area.
The report also noted that it has been established that “satisfactory quantities of kaoli-manganese and other minerals” exist in the Negev. The area also has various types of granite in “sufficient quantity for export and domestic consumption,” the report added.
The report also indicated that the next phase of Negev development will be devoted to commercial exploitation of these resources, laying out areas for cultivation and settlement and expansion of the road network and the securing of adequate water supplies. An official communique today announced the “imminent” building of docking facilities at Eilath, Israel port city on the northern tip of the Gulf of Aqaba.
