Authoritative military circles here today vehemently denied a Bagdad radio report that Israel Chief of Staff Brig. Yigal Yadin and Gen. John Glubb Pasha, commander of the Arab Legion, have met secretly. These same sources stressed that the only contacts maintained at present between Israel and Jordan are through the Israel-Jordan mixed armistic commission.
Brig. Gen. William Riley, U.N. truce chief, today called on Dr. Walter Eytan, director-general of the Israel Foreign Ministry, for a high-level discussion on reasserting the “jurisdictions and powers” of the Israel-Jordan mixed armistice commission. Gen. Riley recently returned from a trip to Amman.
An emergency meeting of the Israel-Jordan mixed armistice commission will be needed to determine the procedure for conducting a joint inquiry into the recent Israel-Jordan dispute over the Negev road leading to Eilath. The Israelis agreed to a U.N. suggestion that they proceed immediately to the scene of the dispute, but the Jordanians balked, maintaining that they could not accept the armistice map drawn up at Rhodes as a basis for discussion.
