Opposition to the rearmament of Germany was voiced here last night at a public meeting arranged jointly by the Board of Deputies of British Jews and the Union of Democratic Control. The speakers included Dr. Abraham Cohen, president of the Board of Deputies, F. Elwyn Jones, former British prosecutor at the Nuremberg trial of the German war criminals and Frank Byers, chairman of the executive committee of the Liberal Party.

Outlining the dangers which the rearmament of Germany may spell for democracy, the speakers denounced the tendency to rearm unrepentant Germans as “a sign of moral bankruptcy.” They warned the British Government against taking “this dangerous and immoral course.” Similar protest meetings are being organized by Jewish Representative Councils in all major provincial cities.
