Jewish Communities Throughout the U.S. Start Observance of “jewish History Week”

The observance of Jewish History Week started today in hundreds of Jewish community organizations throughout the country with a wide range of activities, including lectures, forums, exhibits, film showings in Jewish Centers, Schools, synagogues and other institutions.

The aim of Jewish History Week is to develop an understanding of the role of Jews in American life, of the contributions they have made both as individuals and as a community to the growth of American and of the Jewish ideals of democracy that have helped to formulate and hold American democracy. The observance of the Week is also a means of disseminating information concerning the structure and function of the American Jewish community. The Week has been initiated by Lee M. Friedman, president of the American Jewish Historical Society, which is sponsored by the National Jewish Welfare ###.
